Happy National Trails Month!

Give a warm welcome to June, our favorite time of the year because it’s National Trails Month!  According to the American Hiking Society, the national trails system consists of more than 60,000 miles across all 50 states. We are proud that the Circuit Trails contribute 300+ miles (eventually more than 750 miles!) to the national trail system and is one of America’s largest trail networks. To celebrate National Trails Month and our region’s expanding network, we encourage you explore new trails on the Circuit this June.

On the first Saturday of National Trails Month, people across the country celebrate National Trails Day, taking place this year on June 4th. Whether you picnic under a tree canopy along the Cobbs Creek Trail, walk your furry friend along the Schuylkill River Trail (with a stop at the Schuylkill River dog park), or cycle across the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge Walkway, take this opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. For a list of events happening on National Trails Day, including the 5K Natural Trail Run on the Chester Valley Trail and the Trenton Bike Tour, visit our events page here.

And not to worry, the fun doesn’t stop on June 4th!

The Lawrence Hopewell Trail will host four different family-friendly bicycling rides during Hopewell Valley’s Come Out and Play weekend, on Saturday, June 11th. The guided rides will begin at various Circuit Trail locations throughout Hopewell and Lawrence Townships and end at the Hunt House in Mercer Meadows. Also on June 11th, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia (BCBG) will host a 17-mile ride along the Monroe Township Bike Path. Later in the month on June 26, BCBG will lead a ride along the Cooper River Park Trail.

Our friends at the Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PEC) are also hosting three special events to showcase the natural beauty of the Circuit Trails and provide a relaxing guided ride for cyclists across the Greater Philadelphia area. On June 12th, bask in the natural beauty of the Perkiomen Trail during the 26-mile Nature Ride. Then on June 18th, join Circuit Trails and PEC for the Brews Cruise, a 33-mile roundtrip bike ride on the Schuylkill River Trail, stopping at Stable 12 Brewing, Five Saints Distillery and Conshohocken Brewing Company with drinks along the way! On June 25th, explore 14-miles of the Delaware and Lehigh Canal including the historic pathways that once carried coal and iron from Wilkes-Barre to Philadelphia, to New York.

Whether you’re a walker, biker, runner, or just enjoy the beauty of the natural environment that surrounds our region, make sure to get out on the Circuit Trails to celebrate National Trails Month. The list of events continues, so don’t stop here! If you’re looking for more ways to get involved during National Trails Month, remember to visit our events page.
